Music Ministry

A Singing Church

As worship is central to our community at FBC, it is our music that is the pulse and rhythm of our worship. Our first and biggest choir is our gathered congregation of all ages. Whether from the pew or the loft, all are encouraged to participate as we pray and praise through varied expressions of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.

Additionally, we offer opportunities for participation in choirs to children, youth, and adults, and invite you to join us by exploring the information provided below.

FBC’s music ministry is led by Minister of Music, Warren Howell.

Music & Movement (3 year olds)

Wednesdays 5:45-6:30 (fall through spring semesters)

Our littlest voices participate in age-appropriate music making activities, learning soft from loud, high from low, playing with percussion, and moving their bodies in time with the beat. They share their musical gifts at the end-of- year celebration each May.

Pre-K/Kindergarten Choir

Wednesdays 5:45-6:30 (fall through spring semesters)

Known best for the big red bows they wear in the annual Hanging of the Greens service, these young musicians are learning to use their voices to sing together, to praise God and celebrate God’s creation through song.  They also lend their voices to our end-of-year Music Celebration.

Elementary Choir (Grades 1-5)

Wednesdays 5:45-6:30 (fall through spring semesters)

The Elementary Choir continues to develop students’ musical gifts. This choir provides worship leadership several times during the school year as well as participating in the annual Hanging of the Greens service and the end-of-year Music Celebration.

Youth Choir (Grades 6-12)

Sundays 5:00-6:00 (fall through spring semesters)

The Youth Choir provides worship leadership several times throughout the school year, including participation in the annual Hanging of the Greens service and graduation Sunday.  Additional opportunities for participation with other ensembles (both vocal and instrumental) are provided throughout the year.

Evening Bells

Wednesdays 6:30-7:15  (fall through spring semesters)

This group rings 5 octaves of English Handbells and 5 octaves of choir chimes.  They provide worship leadership several times each year, including playing for the annual Hanging of the Greens service.  They also participate annually in the Capital Area Bell Festival, sponsored by The Raleigh Ringers.

Sanctuary Choir

Wednesdays 7:30-9:00

This group provides weekly worship leadership in addition to offering special music programs throughout the year. No audition is necessary.
