One of the questions asked on the registration form for the Strengthening Families parent support group that is happening throughout the summer at our church is: How much do you feel you understand ways to stay calm when things feel overwhelming? It’s these and other kinds of questions the group is addressing on Sunday evenings. Our participants come from the Caring Connections ministry of the Christian Job Corps in Raleigh, where they are accustomed to working on ways to strengthen their overall health and that of their children. Overwhelming? Just ask that mom who recently gave birth to twins, adding to her home of 4 older children. Just ask the mom who gave birth this summer and brought home an infant with her 8-year-old and her 1-year-old. Just ask that mom who struggles to find a decent place to live; her own place to live. We’re seeing the benefits of this class already. Some talking. Some listening. Some connecting with others. A safe space to be, a good meal to share, a group of caring folks to care for their children while they focus on themselves. A supportive environment.
This class is made possible by the Strengthening Families grant through CBF. We have 4 more classes this summer: July 12 and 19 and August 2 and 16. Please pray for these families who are participating in these classes. - Anna Anderson
