Each Christmas, over one hundred volunteers from our church and community work together to distribute toys to families in our clothing ministry though an event we call "Toy Joy." Church members, weekday preschool families, and ITC families help to donate new and gently used toys for children aged eighteen and younger, and approximately three hundred families are given the opportunity to shop for their children. Businesses and community groups are welcome to donate and get involved! If you would like to donate or volunteer, please contact the church office or email the Toy Joy planning team at fbctoyjoy@gmail.com.
HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP THIS YEAR WITH TOYS!
The Toy Joy team is hard at work preparing for the event on November 16, and as always, we rely on our church family and friends to make this special day happen for our guests. We are planning to serve around 300 families—up to 1000 children—again this year. Links to our Amazon, Target, and Walmart wish lists can be found below. We're happy to shop for you if you'd like to make a monetary donation instead you may use any of the church giving platforms (CLICK HERE) or if you write a check, make it payable to First Baptist and put "Toy Joy" in the memo line).
Touching Raleigh with Love is an outreach event that provides different opportunities to serve in our downtown neighborhood, alongside our community partners. Each year this event looks a little different, giving congregants the opportunity to serve in a variety of service projects. For more information on Touching Raleigh with Love in 2020, email Leah.
First Baptist participates in the Downtown Faith Build, partnering with other faith communities to provide affordable housing in Wake County. Along with eight other downtown churches, we join together in serving families with Habitat for Humanity. For more information on dates and volunteering, email Leah.
Occasionally, First Baptist hosts a Dental bus in our parking lot for people in the community needing free dental care. The dental bus is sponsored by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, and is staffed by our volunteers. The next Dental Bus day is Friday, December 13, 2024. To volunteer please email Leah.
Love of knitting has been combined into a prayer ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace. Our prayer shawl ministry, began in 2006, provides knitted or crocheted prayer shawls as reminders of God's presence and our prayers to friends and neighbors who are going through trying times. These shawls are delivered by ministers and lay leaders alike. For more information about prayer shawls, contact the church office.
