| If you have ever come downtown to go anywhere but FBC, you know how hard it is to find parking. Granted, sometimes it is even hard here! We are extremely fortunate that years ago the church made a trade of property with the State of NC which gave us the ground where our parking lot is located. Frequently we give some of the neighboring churches, and even departments of the state of NC, permission to park in our lot when it will not affect our anticipated use of the parking lot. We sometimes ask for a return of the favor, especially from Edenton Street United Methodist Church, when we have a weekday funeral. Our neighbor Church of the Good Shepherd is renovating, and they have very limited parking spaces for the next month and a half. We have given members/staff permission to park 10-15 cars during the week on days we anticipate having extra spaces in our lot (not clothing ministry Mondays nor days an outside group is paying for use of space in our building). We think it is good stewardship of our parking lot to be good neighbors when space permits. So, sometimes during the week you may see people you do not recognize using our lot and those cars should have parking passes on the dashboard. Church members who have personal business in the area are certainly welcome to use the lot during the week. But please let us know in case we do not recognize your car. During the Fourth of July parade, the Department of Labor has permission to park up to 60 cars in our lot; we are reserving the rest for church members who come to the parade. We do patrol the lot occasionally and put a friendly reminder on unknown cars that says the lot is not public parking, and we ask that they not park here again. Our neighbors are grateful for our sharing the lot. This past week we received this thank you note from Church of the Good Shepherd after allowing their Vacation Bible School volunteers and parents to use our lot. |
