When the Landscape Team was formed last summer, our goal was to make the church grounds look more appealing to both FBC members and passersby. After much planning and the blessing of the Properties Committee, the team, comprising Myra Brickell, Holly Cook, Beth Yerxa, Pam Powell, Lacey Pegram, Karen Poteat, John Baldwin, and Jeff Hobart, tackled many tasks this past month (with much help from many wonderful volunteers).
- Plants in the garth were pruned, the benches were painted, several flowering plants have been added, and the area is freshly mulched.
- A stump in the middle of the flowerbed at the corner of Salisbury and Edenton Streets was removed to make room for a variety of vividly colorful flowers.
- In the back parking lot, holly bushes along Edenton Street were pruned and two dying trees were removed. One of the beautiful live oak trees had selected pruning of dead branches, many old plants were removed and two large planting beds facing Hillsborough Street have been added. The entire perimeter of the parking lot has been mulched to provide nutrients to the soil and improve the appearance of the property.
You will see more additions to these three areas over the next month or two.
The Landscape Team will monitor the grounds and maintain their appearance. We will also plan for future improvements over the next several years.
Many thanks to the 20 church members who helped last weekend as well as those who showed up over the past four weeks. All these improvements could not have happened without their willingness to pitch in and help make the church’s exterior more beautiful. |
