Our college Sunday school meets at 9:45 on Sunday mornings and begins with a light breakfast. The group is low key and intimate, conversational and open. We seek to provide an atmosphere that encourages discussion among students and allows them to ask questions that are demanding, complex, or even unanswerable. By exploring the scripture in this kind of depth, we hope to create lessons that are intellectually and spiritually stimulating.
Worship at First Baptist takes place at 11:00 a.m. in our main sanctuary. We have a traditional worship service that all ages attend.
Transportation from Meredith College and NCSU is provided. A van will pick up from those campuses before Sunday school and return students to them after worship. If you need a ride from another campus, please let us know and we’ll do our best to work something out.
On the final Sunday of each month, lunch for college students is provided in someone’s home. On these Sundays, the van will return to Meredith and NCSU after lunch.
Our next scheduled retreat is our Fall Retreat, planned for October 3-5, 2014 to Arapahoe, NC. Come join us for a weekend of outdoor games and activities, discussions and reflections, and a chance to connect with each other away from the routine of Raleigh! This retreat is still being planned, but if you have questions or would like to know more, please contact Trey at the church.
We also have plans for a Winter Retreat January 3-6, 2015 in Beech Mountain, NC. Weather permitting, we’ll enjoy hiking, sledding, or other outdoor activities. Some choose to ski as well, but the weekend is more than a ski trip, as we’ll also have discussions, sessions, and worship that help us reflect on our faiths. Cost is $40 (plus you’re on your own for skiing costs). Come join us and start 2015 off right!
Each year, college students at First Baptist take a week-long mission trip. Past trips have included an urban ministry focus in New York City and traveling through an organization called Sharefish to El Carrizo, Honduras. This year’s trip will be with a disaster relief organization in Birmingham Alabama called Next Step Storm March 8-14, 2015. If you’re interested in attending, please email Trey to sign up.
Our college students have often taken part in local workdays and service projects. Projects have included working through Habitat for Humanity, donating blood, working in First Baptist’s Clothing Ministry, and working through other CBF channels. We anticipate that 2014-2015 will be another year where FBC college students take part in projects such as these. First Baptist is working on a Habitat project this fall, and we hope to have a Saturday morning dedicated for college students to work and to serve. More details about this project should be available soon.
We like to eat! In recent semesters, we’ve met for a midweek lunch on Hillsborough Street every other week or so. We’ll see what everyone’s schedule looks like and try to find a day and time that will work for most people.
