Minister with Community Position Announcement

NOTE – Due to a technical error, if you  applied between February 22 and March 7, we may not have received your application. If you applied via email and have not received a response, please resend your materials to fbcraleighsearch@gmail.com. Our sincere apologies!

Are you a minister with an entrepreneurial spirit, someone with big ideas for how churches can relate to the world around us? Do you have the spirit of an educator, someone who can guide our congregation in new directions and teach us how to better serve as the hands and feet of Christ in our world? Are you passionate about people, with an ability to connect with others from every walk of life, both digitally and in person? Does your love for God’s people guide your interactions with those on the margins?

We want to hear from you.

As an urban congregation, we are actively looking for new ways to engage in the life of our local community and to show God’s love to our downtown neighbors. The Minister with Community will help us build bridges to connect with our neighbors, those closest to us and beyond. This is a new role for us, and we’re excited about the ideas you bring to community ministry. This ministerial role will integrate some elements of existing staff and ministries, but in many ways you would be forging new paths.

We’re already heavily invested in the downtown Raleigh community; we know that our role as a downtown congregation is different than that of a suburban church. Our Clothing Ministry serves hundreds each week; our Toy Joy initiative brightens Christmas for >1000 children each year. We partner with the Interfaith Food Shuttle to package meals for schoolchildren, and work with Family Promise to host overnight guests in our building. We see the needs of our community every day, and we strive to meet those needs. We are searching for a Minister with Community with fresh vision to ensure we’re doing that in the best ways.

Downtown Raleigh is growing and changing dramatically, with condos on every corner and more residents in our immediate vicinity than we’ve had in 100 years. Our historic location on Capitol Square provides incredible opportunities and challenges as our city navigates this process of growth. We need someone to be the face of FBC to our downtown neighbors. We want your ideas on how to use social media and our website to connect with, to love, to grow, and to serve all of those who live around us, turning virtual interactions into real life ministry.

About Us:

At FBC Raleigh, we blend traditional liturgical worship with fresh approaches to relating to the community around us. We’re an urban church that draws people from throughout the Triangle; a CBF-affiliated congregation who honors historic Baptist principles and welcomes women as leaders in the pulpit and in the diaconate. We’re an accepting church short on condemnation and welcoming of those who bring hard faith questions to the table.

Spend some time on our website to get to know us. We’re proud of our history; our identity statement gives a little more detail about who we’ve grown to be. We think that our visitors get a pretty good taste of our community with this summary.
